Where to start?

January 25, 2007 | 9:31 pm

A few years ago a friend of mine introduced me to blogging and I started posting my own missives on livejournal. I wish I’d kept it up… I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe.

That’s not to say that I haven’t kept a blog since, but it has been as less consumable note pad to capture things while organising our annual Halloween party.

This was running on an old “b2″ blog engine, which I also butchered to build a site called Spotterweb. Unfortunately, a few server migrations on and a lack of maintenance on my part, Spotterweb no longer works, but “b2″ itself matured into what is now the ubiquitous LAMP flagship WordPress.

Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little are leading the new WordPress branch of b2, that is going to become the new official branch once they get a release out. If you want to help with WordPress, don’t hesitate to contact either of them!

So what better platform to continue blogging on.

This is a new install replacing what was here before because my website really needed updating. Add to that a bit of tech lust fuelling a need to explore the tooling; which has moved on so much! And also factor in that I’ve been coming across so many great websites and resources, but it is always been a case of me taking without giving.

Mainly though, it’s a place for me to refer to.

I have always kept a log book at work, but there are so many times I’ve come across bit’s of information worth capturing or I hit something that I know I’ve solved before and my log book doesn’t always fit the bill because…

  • I’m not always at work when I do things
  • the thing on my mind is not always work related
  • the log book I’m after is not always on hand
  • I’m sure it’s in here, but I just can’t find it!

This site wont replace my work log book. It’s not exactly an appropriate place to scribble those meeting notes, the IP address to the mail server or the phone number to ring if the printer has run out of toner.

For the other stuff… I guess we’ll just have to see how it works out.
